UPDATE: Grandmother Arrested in Bathtub Death of 4-Year-Old

Fairfield Police Dispatch received a call at 10:51 a.m. indicating that a 4-year-old boy had drowned in the 1400 block of Jefferson Street.

FAIRFIELD-The 4-year-old boy who was allegedly drowned by his grandmother on purpose Tuesday morning in Fairfield has been identified by police as Richard Kite.

Kite was in the care of 51-year-old Dawn Diana Raines-Hewes when emergency crews were dispatched to an address in the 1400 block of Jefferson Street on report of his drowning.

Investigators said that she placed the child in the bathtub and has admitted to “the intentional act of drowning,” the boy.

Raines-Hewes has been arrested on suspicion of murder, police said, and she’s currently being held without bail.

Two granddaughters, ages 1 and 6, were also in Raines-Hewes care at the time of Kite’s death. They were unharmed, according to police.

FAIRFIELD-A woman has been arrested after her young grandson drowned in a bathtub under suspicious circumstances this morning in Fairfield, police said Tuesday.

Dispatch received a call at 10:51 a.m. indicating that a 4-year-old boy had drowned in the 1400 block of Jefferson Street. Efforts to resuscitate the boy were unsuccessful, according to police.

The child was in the care of his 51-year-old grandmother Dawn Diana Raines-Hewes, who investigators allege placed the child in a bathtub and intentionally drowned him.

Two other grandchildren under Raines-Hewes’ care, a 1-year-old girl and a 6-year-old girl, were not harmed, police said.

Raines-Hewes has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held without bail.

The case remains under investigation and information about any possible motive is not currently being released.
