Hazmat Teams Clear Spilled Fertilizer In Pope Valley

The road remained closed for several hours Thursday after hundreds of gallons of fertilizer spilled in Napa County.

NAPA COUNTY, CA β€” Napa County hazmat crews cleared hundreds of gallons of spilled fertilizer Thursday evening after a trailer tipped over on a rural road in Pope Valley.

Crews from Cal Fire, Napa County and the California Highway Patrol responded to the incident shortly before 6 p.m. on Howell Mountain Road near St. Helena, officials said. According to the CHP, the trailer was carrying calcium ammonium nitrate and firefighters were closely monitoring the scene due to hazardous vapors that could ignite a fire.

Officials said no one was injured in the crash. The road remained closed late into Thursday evening.
