Man Outside Disabled Vehicle Struck & Killed In Rural Napa County
A man on foot in the road near his disabled vehicle in rural Napa County was struck and killed in a collision, according to CHP.
NAPA VALLEY, CA β A man on foot in the road near his disabled vehicle in rural Napa County was struck and killed in a collision early Saturday, the California Highway Patrol said.
The incident occurred about 4:10 a.m. on Silverado Trail north of Oak Knoll Avenue, the CHP said in a Facebook posting.
A woman driving a Toyota RAV4 SUV was southbound on Silverado Trail when she suddenly noticed the man on the east side of the highway and wasn't able to avoid hitting him, the highway patrol said.

An off-duty Sonoma County sheriff's deputy, who had previously seen the man standing in a different part of the road, returned to the scene but wasn't able to save his life, the CHP said.
The headlights of the disabled vehicle may have made it hard for southbound traffic to see the victim in the roadway, the highway patrol said.

Investigators will seek to determine whether the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. There were no indications that the driver of the SUV was impaired, according to the CHP.
The victim's identity was withheld pending notification of his family by the Napa County Sheriff/Coroner's Office, the highway patrol said.

Silverado Trail between Oak Knoll Avenue and Yountville Cross Road was closed for about two hours, the sheriff's office said.
