Motorcyclist Dies In Highway 29 Head-On Collision

The fatal Napa Valley crash resulted in the closure of state Highway 29 in both directions.

NAPA VALLEY, CA β€” A motorcyclist died early Thursday in a collision on state Highway 29, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported at 5:40 a.m. north of Oakville Cross Road and south of Highway 128, and resulted in the closure of SR-29 for 2 hours and 15 minutes, according to the CHP.

The motorcyclist was riding a 2015 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on SR-29 and was passing other vehicles over the solid double yellow lines, at an unknown speed, the CHP said.

A 30-year-old San Francisco man was driving southbound on SR-29 in a 2010 Mercedes sedan when the motorcyclist rode over the solid double yellow lines into the southbound lane and collided head-on with the front of the Mercedes, the CHP said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the CHP, the motorcyclist wore a helmet but was not properly licensed to drive a motorcycle in California.

He was a 41-year-old Napa man; once his family members are properly notified of his death, the Napa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office will release his name.
