Motorcyclist Injured By Pickup Driven Through Red Light

Napa motorcycle rider suffers head injury in crash.

A Napa man was injured in a collision between his motorcycle and a Toyota pickup in Napa Tuesday night, police said.

Napa Police Sgt. Brian Campagna said the motorcyclist, John Mace, 28, of Napa, was stopped around 8 p.m. in a left turn lane on eastbound Imola Avenue at Gasser Drive waiting for a green light so he could turn north onto Gasser Drive, Campagna said.

Berta Cortez, 41, of Napa, was driving the Toyota pickup west on Imola Avenue east of Gasser Drive and failed to stop at a red light at the intersection, Campagna said.

The pickup collided with the motorcycle when Mace turned left once his light turned green, Campagna said.

Mace suffered a head injury and was taken to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center. He is expected to survive, Campagna said, and was listed in stable condition this afternoon. Cortez was not injured.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be contributing factors to the collision, Campagna said.

The intersection was closed for 6 1/2 hours to investigate the collision, Campagna said.
