Napa County Reports First Case of Zika Virus
The case is of a pregnant woman who traveled to Central America. She is not showing symptoms of Zika virus infection at this time.
NAPA - The Napa County Health Department is reporting the Zika Virus has been discovered for the first time in the county.
In a brief letter sent out March 2, the Napa County Public Health Division say it received confirmation from the California Department of Public Health of the positive result.
The case is of a pregnant woman who traveled to Central America. She is not showing symptoms of Zika virus infection at this time.

County officials want to assure residents they are safe in Napa County.
"This Zika virus case is not a threat to public health," Dr. Karen Relucio, Napa County Health Officer, stated in the release. "There is no active transmission of Zika virus in Napa County, and the two kinds of mosquitoes that transmit the virus have not been found here."

Reportedly, this this the first case of the Zika virus discovered in the Bay Area. The CDC says there are 6 'Travel-associated cases' of Zika reported in California as of Feb 24.
