Napa Man Dies In Jeep Crash

The fatal crash happened Tuesday on state Highway 29 south of Yountville.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — The Napa County Sheriff's Office has identified a man who died in a solo vehicle crash on state Highway 29 south of Yountville on Tuesday morning as 60-year-old Napa resident David Wayne Gruening.

Gruening was driving a 2006 Jeep at a high rate of speed north on Highway 29 north of Hoffman Lane around 11:10 a.m. when he lost control and drove off the east edge of the highway, California Highway Patrol officials said.

The Jeep struck a drainage ditch, fence, tree and a power pole. Gruening was not wearing safety equipment and was ejected, according to the CHP.
