Napa Sheriff's Office issues Fraud Alert

Male suspect tells victim that they have a Napa County warrant for missing jury duty and to send him $2,000. Don't do it!

Napa County Sheriff's Office has issued the following fraud alert:
Β
According to the office, several people have received a call from a male who identifies himself as "Major" or "Deputy Wilson."

The suspect tells the victim that they have a Napa County warrant for their arrest for failing to appear for jury duty, and that they can avoid jail by sending him $2,000.

Β Although it is possible the Sheriff’s Office would notify someone by phone that they have a warrant, the Sheriff’s Office would NEVER ask for or accept payment of any kind for a warrant.

Anyone may contact the Sheriff’s Office, 24 hours a day, to ask if they have a warrant for their arrest.

All the caller needs to provide is their name and date of birth to find out if they have a warrant. The Sheriff’s Office number to call for a warrant check is 707-253-4209.

Please be suspicious of anyone asking for money over the phone; this is just one more twist on the ongoing phone scams for money.
