Napa, Solano Counties Band Together To Connect Older Adults To Critical Support Services

"When older adults are actively engaged, included and connected, we all benefit."

NAPA COUNTY, CA β€” Highlighting the importance of addressing older adult needs, Napa and Solano counties issued joint resolutions this week declaring May as Older Americans Month. The historic collaboration between the two counties recognizes the challenges faced by the region’s fastest-growing population sectorβ€”older adults. Since 2018, Napa and Solano have joined forces to better address the expanding needs of older adults in the sister counties under the Napa/Solano Area Agency on Aging (N/S AAA).

β€œPersonal connection is a priority for senior health,” says Elaine Clark, N/S AAA director. β€œBut it’s equally important that we work across county lines to connect older adults to the services that they need. That’s why the theme for this year’s Older Americans Month is β€˜Powered by Connection.’”

In both counties, support for older adults abounds. The Napa County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) provides services for older adults in a one-stop model through its Comprehensive Services for Older Adults Division. A wide range of services are available that help keep residents safe and connected to caregivers, enhance wellness through mental health supports and even provide support to residents who can no longer manage their own affairs.

The Solano County Health and Social Services Agency (H&SS) shares in the commitment to sustaining the health and well-being of older adults, offering its own host of supports through its Older and Disabled Adults Services. β€œFrom fraud prevention to mental health support, ombudsman services to art classes, our agency pools a vast range of carefully vetted resources that help older adults thrive,” says H&SS director Gerald Huber. Together, the Napa HHSA and Solano H&SS oversee a dense network of service providers that touch on every aspect of older adults’ lives.

β€œWhen older adults are actively engaged, included and connected, we all benefit,” says Jennifer Yasumoto, director of HHSA. β€œThese resolutions affirm the work of our agencies in our commitment to older adults and invite the wider community to support them in living vibrant, dignified lives.”
