Napa To Unveil Time Capsule

The public is invited to see the progress Napa has made and the contents of a time capsule buried Jan. 4, 2000, outside Napa City Hall.

NAPA, CA — The contents of a time capsule buried in the year 2000 at Napa City Hall will soon be unveiled.

The City of Napa invites the public to witness a historical moment showcasing the contents of the time capsule at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 22, in the courtyard between City Hall and the Police Station at 1539 First St.

The time capsule was buried Jan. 4, 2000, at the annual City of Napa Commission Member Banquet. Commissioners presented a collection of literature, reports, memorabilia and pictures that were representative of their accomplishments and their vision for the community in the year 2020. Following the banquet, the items were placed in the capsule and it was buried.

Having just adopted their General Plan, "Envision Napa 2020," the time capsule serves as a historical portrait of what Napa's elected representatives and visionaries had once planned for the city's future.

Napa City Councilmembers and city staff invite the community to join them June 22 to celebrate Napa's progress over the last 23 years and see what is inside the time capsule.
