Napa Valley Unemployment Rate Better Than State Average

The countywide unemployment rate in February was the best it's been for that month in the past three years.

The unemployment rate in the Napa Valley is on a downward trend, according to data released Friday by the state Employment Development Department.

The February unemployment rate for the county was 7 percent, the third lowest month in more than two years.

Napa County's unemployment rate was down from a revised 8 percent in January, and well below the February averages for all of California (9.7 percent) and the nation (8.1 percent).

February also marked the lowest unemployment rate in the county in two years, excluding grape harvest time last fall.

The unemployment rate was just above 7 percent in the city of Napa. Yountville had the best rate of all cities in the county at 5.1 percent.

Statewide, California’s unemployment rate decreased to 9.6 percent in February. That's down 0.2 percent from January. The year-over-year change (February 2012 to February 2013) shows an increase of 293,800 jobs, or up 2.1 percent.

The unemployment rate is derived from a federal survey of 5,500 California households.
