• Nightly Reverse One-Way Traffic Control on State Route 29 (SR-29) for Culvert Work in Between Rutherford, Oakville in Napa County (ca.gov) — Nighttime roadwork on Highway 29 between Rutherford and Oakville will bring reverse one-way traffic control and detours starting the evenings of January 8–10 and 12–17, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Southbound drivers heading toward Napa will be rerouted via SR-128, Silverado Trail, and Oakville Cross Road. Expect delays through spring 2026 and watch for flaggers and construction crews.
   

• Napa motorist dies after being pinned to rock by own car (ktvu.com) — A Napa driver died Saturday night after being pinned between his reversing car and a rock wall outside a home on Happy Lane, according to the CHP. Investigators say the vehicle was left in reverse, dragged the driver, then hit a curb, lawn and house before trapping him. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name.

Here's Where They're Typically Found (housedigest.com) — An invasive beetle called the Mediterranean oak borer, first detected in Napa County in 2019, is now threatening oak and beech trees across parts of California and Oregon. Local homeowners with oaks should watch for browning leaves, dying branches, and tiny round holes, and may need to remove and report infected trees. Keeping trees well-watered, pruned, and unstressed can help reduce risk.
