📰 News we're reading

1. Napa Sheriff’s Deputy Secretly Recorded, Shared Nude Images Of Wife, Prosecutors Charge: Report (patch.com) — Napa residents are learning that a Napa County sheriff’s deputy is facing misdemeanor charges after prosecutors accused him of secretly recording and sharing nude images of his estranged wife over several months. The deputy, who worked as a courtroom bailiff, has pleaded not guilty and remains on paid administrative leave while Napa County Superior Court and local law enforcement continue parallel investigations and a protective order remains in place.

2. Recycle, Reuse, Re-Tree: Napa Scouts Help Clear Holiday Greenery (patch.com) — Napa residents can have their Christmas trees picked up curbside this Saturday by local Scouts, who’ll turn them into mulch and compost. The city also reminds you not to recycle holiday lights in your bin, but to drop them at Napa’s Levitin Way facility or the Devlin Road center instead, with extra options for late tree set-outs.

3. Are Your Trees Safe From This Invasive Pest? Here's Where They're Typically Found (housedigest.com) — An invasive beetle called the Mediterranean oak borer was first detected in Napa County in 2019 and is now attacking oak and beech trees in parts of California and Oregon. Local homeowners with oaks should watch for browning leaves, dead branches, and tiny round holes, and may need to remove and report infected trees while keeping remaining trees healthy and well-watered.

4. Meet Napa buses' newly named animal mascots: Ollie, Poppy, Mari and Talon (pressdemocrat.com) — Napa County’s zero-emission Vine Transit buses now feature four newly named animal mascots chosen by local elementary students: Ollie the owl, Poppy the bee, Mari the butterfly and Talon the hawk. Kids from schools in Napa, Calistoga, St. Helena and beyond helped pick names that celebrate local nature and culture, with winners treated to pizza parties and bus tours.
