The crash closed Silverado Trail between Oak Knoll Avenue and Yountville Cross Road for several hours Tuesday.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — Silverado Trail reopened Tuesday afternoon at the site of a collision that killed two bicyclists, authorities said.
Authorities announced at 11:54 a.m. Tuesday that the roadway was closed from Oak Knoll Avenue to Yountville Cross Road because of a fatal crash.
The collision happened at 11 a.m. as a man in his 50s on a Trek bicycle and a woman in her mid-40s on a Specialized bicycle were riding in the designated bike lane on Silverado Trail, north of Oak Knoll, California Highway Patrol Officer Vince Pompliano said.

Just south of the cyclists, a 55-year-old Vallejo man was driving a 2018 Freightliner three-axle flatbed truck northbound on Silverado, just north of Oak Knoll. He was going about 40 mph when a load he was transporting shifted to the right and projected beyond the right side of the truck, Pompliano told Patch.
As he passed the cyclists, the load struck them causing a traffic crash.

The driver stopped north of the crash site.
Several witnesses also stopped to help, Pompliano said.
The male cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The female cyclist was rushed to Queen of the Valley Medical Center but her injuries were too severe and she was also pronounced dead, Pompliano said.
The truck driver was not injured.
CHP said the coroner's office would be releasing the identities of the two bicyclists.
The crash resulted in an hours-long closure of the 4.6-mile stretch of roadway between Oak Knoll and Yountville Cross Road. At 3:52 p.m., the sheriff's office said Silverado Trail was reopened.
The incident remained under investigation Tuesday evening.
