Stolen Mail Recovered In Traffic Stop: American Canyon PD
Mail belonging to at least 10 victims was recovered in what started out as a routine traffic stop for running a stop sign, police said.
AMERICAN CANYON, CA — Officers were working to identify more than 10 victims whose mail was recovered in a traffic stop in American Canyon, police said.
Monday afternoon, an American Canyon officer stopped a driver on suspicion of running a stop sign at Broadway and Cartagena Way.
It is alleged that the front passenger, who told the officer he'd been arrested in the past, provided a false name.

Officers positively identified the passenger as 46-year-old Pelesi Tuitele of Vallejo.
It is alleged that in a search of Tuitele's backpack, officers found it was filled with stolen mail.

The mail included DMV records, utility bills and other documents containing personal identifying information for over 10 victims, police said.
Tuitele was arrested and booked into the Napa County Department of Corrections on suspicion of felony identity theft, possession of a controlled substance, and providing a false name to police.
As of Tuesday, Tuitele remained behind bars and officers were still working to track down all the victims.
