Want a Job With Amazon in Tracy?

Amazon confirmed this week that its new fulfillment center in Tracy, Calif., has shipped its first customer order. The item, a book titled, β€œRaise the Bar,” was shipped from the 1-million-square-foot facility to an Amazon customer in Menlo Park, Calif.

The company has hired more than 400 full-time employees to help pick, pack and ship customer orders and expects to continue hiring. Median pay inside Amazon fulfillment centers is 30 percent higher than jobs in traditional retail stores – and that doesn’t even include the stock grants that full-time employees receive. Employees also receive a comprehensive benefits package, including health care, 401KΒ and company stock awards. Amazon offers full-time employees innovative programs like Career Choice, where it will pre-pay up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon. Since the program’s launch last summer, employees are pursuing degrees in game design and visual communications, nursing, IT programming and radiology, to name a few.
