What Did Your Congressman's Seat Cost?

Do you have a guess of how much Rep. Mike Thompson had to raise to win his seat in the House of Representatives?

Rep. Mike Thompson won reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives last fall, now representing Napa and Sonoma counties for his thirteenth term.

But how much did his House seat cost him?

On the Napa Valley Patch Facebook page, reader Dee expressed a concise opinion that speaks broadly to the relationship between money and politics: "Lots."

In terms of dollars and cents, Thompson raised $1,811,426 during the 2012 election cycle, according to MapLight, a non-profit that tracks money in politics.

That's ahead of the curve: the average House member raised $1,689,580, or $2,315 a day, according to MapLight.
