AMERICAN CANYON, CA — The southbound lanes of state Highway 29 were temporarily shut down Friday during a short standoff between a driver and police officers, the American Canyon Police Department said.

The incident started just before 9:30 a.m. Thursday when officers spotted a stolen 2019 Nissan Sentra on southbound SR-29 in American Canyon.

Officers stopped the driver who refused to get out of the car and comply with the officers’ commands. For safety reasons, police shut down the southbound lanes of SR-29 near Mid City Nursery.

A Napa County sheriff’s drone was soon deployed and officers could see the female driver was alert inside the car and kept reaching into a wood box instead of exiting the vehicle.

More announcements were made to the driver but her non-compliance continued, police said.

Finally, when officers deployed less-lethal bean bag rounds toward the car, she got out and was safely taken into custody.

Police identified the driver as Sabrina Annal of Fairfield, a 39-year-old woman out of Fairfield.

Officers learned Annal had multiple felony warrants from Solano County for vehicle theft, vehicle pursuits, and hit and run.

Annal was booked into Napa County jail for her warrants and on suspicion of charges related to Thursday's incident, including vehicle theft, being a felon in possession of a stun gun, and resisting arrest.
