📰 News we're reading

• Napa's youngest students learn cognitive, motor, social skills through music (pressdemocrat.com) — Napa’s youngest learners are getting structured music and movement classes at all 16 Napa Valley Unified elementary schools, including West Park Elementary, through a contract with In Harmony Music. The program supports TK and kindergarten students’ cognitive, motor, and social-emotional skills, with the district investing over $20,000 this school year to expand engaging afterschool options for local families.

• Winter storms could cost Napa banked water storage (mercedsunstar.com) — Napa officials warn that heavy winter storms could wipe out much of the city’s “banked” State Water Project supply stored in San Luis Reservoir, even as they boost current allocations. City and county water managers are juggling sales of carryover water, drought hedging, and changing state operations, with another update on this high‑stakes supply puzzle expected in February.

• From Napa To Global: County Tapped In Ambitious Rethink Of Homeless Counts (patch.com) — Napa County will be an early pilot site for a new, research-driven approach to counting unsheltered homelessness, led by local biostatistician Dr. Chris Barker. Residents can learn what this could mean for local policy and services at a public presentation Jan. 6 at the Napa County Library, with findings to be shared with Napa leaders and federal agencies.
