📰 News we're reading

• National City offices to close for two-week work furlough (timesofsandiego.com) — National City residents should prepare for all city offices, libraries, and recreation centers to close next week for a two-week unpaid furlough, though police and fire services will continue. Drop box and online payments will still be accepted, and a city hotline will handle urgent issues like sewer problems, flooding, and fallen trees during the closure.

• San Diego rents have fallen for 6 months. Should you ask your landlord for a deal? (sandiegouniontribune.com) — National City renters are seeing something unusual this year: while average rents across San Diego County have dipped slightly, National City’s have actually risen about 0.6% to roughly $1,940 a month. The piece explains why vacancies are up, how landlords are responding with concessions, and what that means if you’re thinking about negotiating your lease or hunting for a new place nearby.

• Port of San Diego Expands With 100 Acres of Land and 8,000 Acres of Bay (obrag.org) — National City’s bayfront is part of a major expansion of the Port of San Diego’s authority over 8,000 acres of bay and 100 acres of land. A new Trust Lands Use Plan extends port control into the bay’s “doughnut hole,” shaping future conservation, aquaculture, and navigation rules that affect waters off National City and other member cities.
