Advanced Cardiac Facility Debuts at Hoag Hospital
Officials say the room is one of the world's most advanced cardiac operating suites.

in Newport Beach opened a cardiac operating suite this week, which officials say is one of the most advanced in the world.
According to Hoag officials, the Bob and Marjie Bennett Hybrid Surgical Suite includes a Siemen’s Artis Zeego robotic imaging system with 3D and 4D reconstruction software that is used to produce images of blood vessels, tissue and organs during cardiac surgery and other procedures.
Dr. Richard M. Afable, Hoag’s president and chief executive officer, said the opening of the hybrid cardiovascular operating room is a milestone for the hospital.

“By receiving diagnostic imaging and surgical procedures simultaneously in the same room from a comprehensive team of specialists, surgeons will benefit from much faster access to critical information," Afable said in a released statement. "Cardiovascular patients will benefit from more efficient treatment and potentially shorter hospital stays, faster recoveries and improved outcomes.”
In addition to the new cardiac suite, Hoag also recently became the only hospital in Orange County—and one of a select few in the nation—able to treat patients with the FDA-approved Edwards Lifesciences SAPIEN Transcatheter Aortic Heart Valve. Hoag officials say the treatment option provides an important therapy to patients who are not candidates for traditional surgical replacement.
