Fisherman Disappears From Newport Beach Coastline Amid Strong Surf

NEWPORT BEACH, CA — Search crews and family members continued combing the Orange County coast Monday after a fisherman was last seen near one of the region's most dangerous surf breaks, Fox 11 reported.

The man, identified as Lu Thu Tran, was last seen on Christmas Eve while fishing at the Wedge close to the entrance to Newport Harbor, the report said.

Family members told Fox 11 that Tran spoke with his wife by phone before heading out to fish, notifying her that the weather conditions were bad.

"We just want to find closure by at least finding his body," Phong Ho, Tran's brother, told Fox 11.
