Burglars Hit Four Newport Homes

Police urge residents to report suspicious noises and activity.

A handful of homes in Newport Beach were targeted by burglars who accessed the properties through unlocked doors and by breaking windows, Newport Beach police reported.

  • The most recent incident occurred between 10 p.m. Saturday and 7:45 a.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Lugonia Street. Police say an unknown suspect entered the home through an unlocked garage door and took a skateboard, three bottles of alcohol, speakers, a laptop, a netbook and cash from the garage and kitchen.
  • Another home on Lugonia was targeted on Friday, between 2:00 and 8:35 a.m. Police say an unknown suspect entered the garage through an unlocked side pedestrian door and stole three purses, a checkbook and credit cards from her unlocked vehicle and garage.
  • On Thursday, between 4:15 and 4:25 p.m., burglars broke a side breezeway window at a home in the 900 Block of Via Lido Soud. Police say a neighbor heard noises, went outside to investigate and saw the suspects flee in a small, red SUV.
  • A home in the 100 block of Via Koron was broken into between Monday at 1 p.m. and Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Police say an unknown suspect used a statue to smash the side window and enter the home. Once inside the suspect ransacked several rooms and stole jewelry, a checkbook, safe and more.
