Cop Calls: Burglars Break Window, Pry Open Door

In one case, a suspect pried open a front door.

Burglars attempted to break into two homes in Newport Beach last week, police reported.

  • Police say on Wednesday, Jan. 25 between 5:45 and 9:44 p.m., an unknown suspect tried to break into a home in the 2100 block of Coral Place. According to police, the suspect forced open a front window, causing it to break.
  • An unknown suspect attempted to break into a home in the 1800 Block of Mariners Drive sometime between Friday, Jan. 6 and Friday, Jan. 13. Police say the suspect attempted to pry open the front door.

Home Security Tips:
- Close and lock all doors, windows and garage door.

- All exterior doors should be equipped with a deadbolt lock, which should always be used have a security strike plate, attached with a minimum of two, three inch screws.

- If you have an alarm, always activate it when you are away.

- Use photo cells or timers to turn both interior and exterior lights on and off.

- If you are going to be out of town, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to check on your home and pick up your mail. Signup for a vacation check from the police department at www.nbpd.org

- If you witness suspicious activity in your neighborhood, call police immediately at 949-644-3717.
