On September 26, 2023, Dr. William Thompson, a Newport Beach infectious disease doctor affiliated with HOAG Hospital, was charged with sexually abusing patients under the guise of necessary medical examinations. Thompson, who is also accused of sexual battery and forcible oral copulation, specialized in treating the LGBTQ+ community for more than 20 years.
