Newport Beach-Based Conexant Wins Green Award

The company is one of 280 businesses in the state recognized for environmentally friendly practices.

For the second year in a row, Newport Beach-based Conexant Systems Inc. has been honored for environmentally friendly efforts by CalRecycle, a.k.a. the state Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery.

Conexant - a supplier of semiconductor products for imaging, audio, embedded-modem and video applications - was one of 280 California businesses and nonprofits selected by CalRecycle as 2011 Waste Reduction Award Program winners. The winners were chosen based on reported waste prevention, recycling and composting, procurement and educational activities.

Sailesh Chittipeddi, president of Conexant, said the recognition is greatly appreciated.

“The cost savings Conexant continues to realize from its green initiatives not only support operational financial objectives but also demonstrate that environmentally friendly practices can be good for business,” Chittipeddi said.

  • Energy conservatin efforts that save almost 500,000 kilowatt hours – the equivalent of planting 1,177 trees or keeping 67 cars off the highway.
  • Recycling and reuse programs that diverted more than 38,900 pounds of office paper and 32,635 pounds of office furniture and e-waste (computers, servers, printers, and circuit boards) from landfills.

CalRecycle's 2011 WRAP winners ranged in size from mom-and-pop stores to multimillion-dollar corporations. Overall, the winners reported diverting more than 2.3 million tons of material from landfills and reported more than $200 million in cost savings.

Caroll Mortensen, director of CalRecycle, said the WRAP winners "are evidence that businesses and organizations of all sizes are achieving significant waste reduction and recycling goals, all while helping protect the environment and preserve our natural resources."
