Car Drives Over Manhole, Killing Man Underneath: LAPD Seeks Info
Video showed the car driving over a manhole which a pedestrian underneath was trying to open.
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that took place over the weekend in Panorama City.
The incident took place at 10:25 a.m. on July 10, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. A white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was driving west on Parthenia Street when it drove over a manhole, which a man underneath was trying to open. As the car drove over the hole, the cover was pushed down and then sprung up, forcing the man back down inside. The driver continued driving and has not been identified, police said.
Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. He was described only as a man in his 20s and his name was not released until family could be notified.

"The public is reminded that manholes are used for city services to access various maintenance tunnels that are located underground," LAPD said in a statement. "Manhole covers should not be disturbed or moved due to their weight and could cause serious injury or death."
