Killers Still At Large In NoHo Rec Center Shooting

Authorities identified a 42-year-old man shot to death Monday while working on his vehicle outside the Valley Plaza Recreational Center.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — Authorities Tuesday identified a man who was fatally shot outside a North Hollywood recreation center after being approached by two suspects who remain at large.

Sergio Mares, 42, of Sun Valley was gunned down about 6 p.m. Monday near the Valley Plaza Recreational Center near Laurelgrove Avenue and Archwood Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers found Mares with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the facility. He died at a hospital.

"The victim had been working on his vehicle when he was approached by two male suspects and shot," according to a police statement.

The suspects fled north on Vanowen Street in a black Mercedes-Benz, according to KCAL9.

Police did not offer a motive for the shooting or release descriptions of the suspects.
