North Hollywood Nonprofit Granted $5M For Homeless Housing

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — LA Family Housing in North Hollywood this work was named a $5 million recipient of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos' philanthropic fund, and plans to use the grant to buy property that will help house homeless families.

The gift is among $97.5 million in inaugural grants awarded by the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund to 24 organizations nationwide that work to improve family homelessness.

LA Family Housing CEO Stephanie Klasky-Gamer told City News Service the organization will use the funds to purchase properties to convert into bridge housing for families.

"It's hugely significant for us," Klasky-Gamer said. "We're a nonprofit homeless services agency, so this all will be very helpful."

LA Family housing has a staff of 260, and helps house around 230 families each night at 23 properties it operates. It hopes to provide bridge housing for an additional 150 families annually with the new grant.

"Congrats to the recipients -- we know you'll spend the money wisely and with heart," Bezos said in a statement posted on Twitter.
