Pedestrian Fatality Shuts Down 5 Freeway

A man was killed and another person was injured when a dark-colored vehicle reportedly struck a man on the 5 Freeway and fled Saturday.

PACOIMA, CA — The northbound Golden State (5) Freeway reopened Saturday after an earlier crash in Pacoima, where a vehicle struck and killed a man and an injured person was taken to an area hospital.

Officers responded at 4:25 a.m. to the crash scene near the Osborne Street exit and located the victim down in the No. 3 lane, according to the CHP.

Another person was somehow injured in that crash and was taken to an area hospital. That victim's condition was not immediately released.

A witness told officers a dark-colored vehicle may have fatally struck the person and fled the scene, the CHP said.

It was unclear why the victim was on the freeway when the accident occurred.

At 1:18 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reported that all lanes except the No. 6 lane of the northbound freeway at Osborne Street were open.
