20-Year-Old Killed In Fiery Crash Near Mission Hills Identified

The vehicle struck the freeway center divider and veered across all lanes to the right shoulder, and struck a tree before catching fire.

ARLETA, CA — A 20-year-old man killed when a car crashed into the center divider of a freeway transition road, veered across all lanes to the right shoulder, and struck a tree before catching fire in Arleta, was identified Wednesday.

The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 3:17 a.m. Saturday and occurred on the transition road from the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway to the southbound Hollywood (170) Freeway.

A witness told the CHP the tree and the car became engulfed in flames.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as Sebastian Arredondo, who died from inhalation of combustion products and thermal injuries.

A SigAlert issued at 4:05 a.m. Saturday shut down all but the HOV lane on the transition road. It was canceled at 8:11 a.m., according to the CHP.
