It was cold out on the driveway, but the talk was hot.
LAPD Senior Lead Officer Daniel del Valle was there Monday with two other officers as the sun was setting on Hillview Avenue. Forty-five neighbors gathered because they were sick of crime.
Roy and JoAnn Inouye were hosting. Burglars had hit their house. Cameras, computers, the sort of things that could quickly be sold for cash. Gone.
Del Valle cautioned neighbors to be on alert. Call 911 if you see a burglary or crime in progress. Call the police if you see someone suspicious or out of place in the neighborhood. Neighbors need to know each other and watch out for each other.
Other neighborhoods should hold meetings too, he said, to help stamp out crime.
And he reminded everyone that Neighborhood Watch meets at 7 p.m., the fourth Thursday of every month, at , 9901 Mason Ave., where the LAPD briefs citizens on the latest crime rate and speakers provide an insight into police operations.
