Firefighters quickly extinguished the outdoor fire, and notified police that a body was at the location. The person’s gender and age were not immediately known, and it was unclear if foul play was involved in the death, according to the LAPD.

The body was discovered in a tree-lined area near the south side of the Nobel Middle School campus. Classes remained in session, though students in a campus building near where the body was discovered were relocated to a different building, according to the Los Angeles Unified School District.
