McInerney Sentenced to 21 Years in Slaying of Gay Classmate

Brandon McInerney, 17, was sentenced to 21 years in prison Monday for the point-blank slaying of a gay middle school classmate.

Although the 2008 shooting took place in Oxnard, the trial was held in the .

After a mistrial was declared in September when a hung jury couldn't decide on murder or manslaughter, McInerney pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter and use of a firearm as part of a November plea deal.
