Chatsworth Man Crashes into Palm Tree in Rancho Mirage

Deputies said he was driving on the wrong side of the road.

A Chatsworth man driving on the wrong side of Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage crashed his vehicle into a palm tree, a Riverside County sheriff's department spokesman said Saturday.

Randy Scott Durand, 50, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving when he hit the tree shortly after 10 p.m. Friday on Highway 111 east of Fairway Drive, sheriff's Sgt. Dan Devinny said.

The vehicle was traveling east in the westbound lanes and sustained moderate damage. Durand suffered minor injuries, Devinny said. Durand was released Saturday from the Indio Jail on $2,500 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court May 1 at the Larson Justice Center, jail records showed.
