A Chatsworth man who walked into a police station to confess that he killed his girlfriend pleaded no contest Monday to voluntary manslaughter and was immediately sentenced to 11 years in state prison.David Neylander Pearson, 60, was originally charged with murder in connection with the strangulation death of 62-year-old Kirsten Marie Hyde of Chatsworth. That count was dismissed today by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David B. Gelfound in light of the defendant's plea.Hyde was found dead in an apartment in the 9200 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard on June 14, 2011, after Pearson told officers at the Topanga Area Community Police Station that he had killed her, according to police and prosecutors.Pearson has since been jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.A restitution hearing was set for Sept. 9.--City News Service
