Did You See This Accident on Owensmouth?

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to rescue a delivery driver.

There was  horrific multi-car accident on the 10400 block of Owensmouth Avenue. Did you see it?

Apparently, a delivery car was hit at high speed March 30 by a suspected drunk driver. The impact knocked the delivery driver's white car into two more cars before the suspect's SUV hit a parked vehicle and stopped, a witness told Chatsworth Patch.

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to pry open the white car and rescue the critically injured delivery driver who was rushed to a hospital for surgery, said the witness, who supplied Chatsworth Patch with photos but asked not to be identified.

The suspect driver, who had a foot injury, tried to flee, first in his damaged SUV and then on foot. Bystanders stopped him and made him sit on a curb until police arrived, the witness said.

Neighbors have requested a stop sign or speed bumps on this block, and at one point the city placed a stop sign at the intersection of Owensmouth and Hiawatha, the witness said, but weeks later removed it.

Owensmouth Avenue, with a nursing home up the street, has become an alternate to Topanga Canyon Boulevard, with cars zipping along at 40 to 50 mph, the witness said.
