Driver Plows Into SFV Coffee Shop, Injuring 8

LOS ANGELES, CA — Eight people were injured Thursday afternoon when a vehicle plowed through a coffee shop at a busy San Fernando Valley shopping center.

Somehow, despite widespread damage to the shop, most of the injuries were treated at the scene.

The crash occurred just before 4 p.m. at Enigma Coffee in the 18663 West Ventura Boulevard at the Tarzana Safari Walk, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"Eight patients are being evaluated," said LAFD Spokeswoman Margaret Stewart. "Seven patients were in the parking lot with minor, non-life threatening injuries and are declining LAFD transportation."

The driver, a 60-year-old woman, was also injured, but she declined to be transported to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the crash is being investigated, and Los Angeles Building and Safety and an LAFD Urban Search and Rescue was called in to examine the wreckage and evaluate the building for any immediate safety concerns, added Stewart.
