Gelson's Shuts Northridge Grocery Store
'The numbers just did not pencil out for us,' market official says.

The Gelson's Market at the southwest corner of Plummer Street and Shirley Avenue in Northridge was scheduled to shut it's doors Saturday.

But according to Gregory J. Wilcox in the Daily News, the Northridge Gelson's market closed because of sagging profits. "At the end of the day, no matter which way we looked at it, the numbers just did not pencil out for us," said market-operator Arden Group Senior Vice President Brenda McDaniel.

She said the 36,815-square-foot store opened in 1997 and had 60 employees who all accepted transfers to the company's other stores.
