Northridge Resident Dies in Freeway Crash in Rosemead

The 76-year-old was killed in a chain reaction crash.

A 76-year-old motorist from the San Fernando Valley was killed in a chain reaction crash on a Rosemead freeway today.

The motorist was later identified Jasim Alkuraishi, of Northridge, said Coroner’s Lt. David Smith.

The collision occurred at 1:10 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the San Bernardino (10) Freeway near Rosemead Boulevard, said California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi.

A white 2013 Honda Element had become stalled in the far left lane of the freeway, where it was rear ended by Alkuraishi’s white Nissan Altima. Then, a gray 2012 Nissan Altima driven by a 23-year-old woman plowed into Alkuraishi’s crashed vehicle.

Alkuraishi was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a CHP news statement.

Paramedics took the 23-year-old woman to Garfield Medical Center in Monterey Park with minor injuries, according to the news statement.

Paramedics also transported the driver of the 2013 Honda Element, a 25-year-old man, and his passenger, a 15-year-old boy, to Garfield Medical Center with minor injuries.
