Northridge-Chatsworth Gas Price Drops for 11th Time in 12 Days

NORTHRIDGE-CHATSWORTH -- The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped today for the 11th time in 12 days, decreasing eight-tenths of a cent to $4.916.

The average price has dropped 5.8 cents over the past 12 days, including two-tenths of a cent Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. It decreased seven consecutive days, rose one-tenth of a cent Monday then resumed decreasing Tuesday.

The average price is 2.5 cents less than one week ago and $1.47 lower than one year ago but 4.7 cents more than one month ago. It has dropped $1.578 since rising to a record $6.494 on Oct. 5.

``Further supply improvements for Arizona gasoline, which is produced by some Southern California refineries, seem to have reduced pressure on local gas prices as well,'' said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.

``However, Washington state has experienced some hefty price increases in the past month because of its new cap-and-trade program requiring refineries to purchase carbon credits to offset pollution and in the past week it has surged past California as the most expensive state in the country for gasoline.''

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Washington Friday was $4.963 while the California average was $4.853.

The national average price was unchanged, remaining at $3.584, after back-to-back increases totaling seven-tenths of a cent which followed a run of seven decreases in eight days totaling 1.7 cents. It is one-tenth of a cent more than one week ago and 4.1 cents higher than one month ago but $1.356 less than one year ago.

The national average price has dropped $1.432 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.
