Pipe Bombs Detonated by Bomb Squad

A pedestrian finds a suspicious backpack that prompts a police investigation.

Anyone who heard explosions Friday morning near Nordhoff Street and Eton Avenue heard LAPD's bomb squad at work.

The unit detonated three working pipe bombs found in a backpack by a man walking his dog around 3:30 a.m., said Sgt. Duane Aikins.

He said he doesn't know whether the backpack was found on the street or the gutter or where it came from.
