All it took was a message on a hospital window and in came the outpouring, or in this case, lots and lots of pizza for a young girl in need.
The story of 2-year-old Hazel Hammersley, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in April, went viral after her mother used tape to write "send pizza" on their Los Angeles Childrens' Hospital window.
One passer-by took what he saw and posted it on Reddit and in no time, dozens of pizza orders arrived at Hazel's room, enough for a pizza party.
While that generosity brought some everyday fun back into her life, her family is looking for more help to pay for Hazel's treatment.
The Talbert Family Foundation is organizing a fundraiser on Thursday at the Pizza Cookery in Granada Hills. All day, 20 percent of sales will go toward helping Hazel recover when you present this flyer and yes, that includes takeout orders. The restaurant is located at 10371 Balboa Blvd. in Granada Hills.
The nonprofit will match the first $5,000 raised in this fund and has provided a $5,000 honorarium as well.
