Highland High School Shooting: 1 Injured, 1 Detained In Palmdale
Police responded to the Palmdale school for a possible shooting, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office said.

PALMDALE, CA — A 15-year-old boy was shot at Highland High School in Palmdale Friday morning, and police arrested a 14-year-old boy — a former student at the school — believed to be the shooter, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies responded to the school around 7 a.m., and the investigation is ongoing. A firearm was recovered from off campus and authorities say the school has been cleared. At a press conference, Darren Harris of the LASD said the weapon used in the shooting was a rifle.
One boy was shot in the arm and is in stable condition at a local hospital. The boy was wounded as he was being dropped off at school. He was then taken to a hospital less than two miles away, according to reports.

Authorities have not provided information about a possible motive for the shooting but say there is no further threat to schools in the area.
Out of an abundance of caution, all Antelope Valley Union High School district schools were placed on lockdown.
"Schools will resume their regularly scheduled day. Parents wishing to pick up their students may do so following the appropriate process," the school district said in a statement. "We ask that you have patience with our staff as they accommodate all families"
The ATF is also responding to the school.
Palmdale is located about an hour north of Los Angeles.
