Police Shoot Armed Man In San Fernando Valley Apartment Complex: LAPD

Officers were responding to a report of a man yelling while armed with knife and frying pan, according to the LAPD.

TARZANA, CA — A man in his 40s is in critical condition today after being shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers during a disturbance at a Tarzana apartment complex late Monday night.

Authorities were called to the 6200 block of Reseda Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m. in response to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the LAPD.

A 911 call reported an armed man "possibly suffering from mental illness." The suspect was reportedly yelling and waving a knife and a frying pan on the second floor of the apartment complex.

As officers approached the courtyard of the complex, they saw the suspect with a knife and an officer shot the suspect, the LAPD said.

The suspect was hit by gunfire and taken to a hospital, where he is in critical condition. No officers were injured in the shooting and the knife remains at the scene, police said.
