LA Family Calls LAPD: Both Father And Son End Up Dead
A father and son were both killed Wednesday morning at their San Fernando Valley home.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A father and his adult son died Wednesday in a stabbing and police shooting in the San Fernando Valley.
Officers responded to a home on the 17200 block of Valerio Street in Lake Balboa just after 8 a.m. following a call regarding a man "with mental illness ... an adult son who had been violent towards family members in the past," the Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement.
Police arrived and heard a fight coming from inside the home. Officers forced entry into the premises and "saw the suspect assaulting the victim," prompting one or more officers to open fire at the suspect, police said.

The suspect, a 40-year-old man, had stabbed his 62-year-old father, NBC Los Angeles reported.
The suspect was shot by police; officers rendered aid to him and the victim, who suffered from stab wounds.

Paramedics pronounced both men dead at the scene, police said.
"A pair of scissors used during the assault was recovered at the scene and will be booked as evidence," police said.
