Shooting Threat Triggers Lockdowns At San Fernando Valley Schools

VAN NUYS, CA — Two San Fernando Valley schools were placed on lockdown Wednesday morning in response to anonymous threats to shoot up the schools.

An anonymous caller sent threats to Birmingham Community Charter High School and High Tech Los Angeles Charter High School, according to police.

Birmingham Community Charter High School is at 17000 Haynes St. in Van Nuys, and High Tech Los Angeles Charter High School is at 17111 Victory Blvd. in Lake Balboa.

“Both schools were placed on lockdown, and officers are actively searching the campuses out of an abundance of caution,” the Los Angeles Unified School District Police confirmed.

Birmingham Community Charter received an anonymous phone call shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told City News Service. The timing of the second threat was not immediately clear.

Police were on the scene helping to clear the premises of students and faculty.
