SigAlert: Truck Spills Oranges Across 101, Jamming Traffic For Hours

A truck hauling larges crates of oranges rolled over several times, spilling fruit across the Hollywood (101) Freeway near Toluca Lake.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Several crates full of oranges spilled across the Hollywood (101) Freeway in the Toluca Lake area, triggering an hours-long SigAlert and backing up rush-hour traffic on adjacent freeways Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A white pickup truck rolled over several times after a possible tire blowout on the southbound side of the freeway near Vineland Avenue, spilling oranges across several lanes, the CHP reported. The wreckage shut down the 3, 4,5 and 6 lanes shortly before 3:30 p.m.

Shortly after 6 p.m., the CHP extended the SigAlert for another hour. The traffic jam also backed up traffic on the nearby 134 and 170 connectors. Commuters were advised to avoid the area.
