Starbucks, Quiznos, FroGoYo Join McDonald's at De Soto Square

Where generations of kids and their parents rolled gutter balls and strikes, a cluster of fast food places is rising.

Once the site of the , a bright new Starbucks is preparing to open on April 9. And a Quiznos Sub shop with a FroGoYo frozen yogurt counter has been open for three weeks, according to one sandwich maker.

The free-standing building is adjacent to a modern McDonald's which has been open since early 2011.

"It has been 20 years since we've had a new development in the area," said Brian Fagan of Selective Real Estate Services.  "We want to bring in businesses that can serve Chatsworth businesses' daytime population," he told Chatsworth Patch back in 2010.

The 32-lane bowling alley and classic American diner opened in 1962 as Comet Lanes at De Soto Avenue near Nordhoff Street, and closed its doors in May 2009 after 47 years when the AMF Corp. decided to terminate local operations and remove the bowling lanes from the building.

The center at the southwest corner of De Soto Avenue and Knapp Street, called De Soto Square, is planned to feature additional restaurants and a series of retail shops.
