Police warned women of a possible scam but could not yet elaborate on the nature of the scam nor say whether a crime has been committed, said LAPD Officer Drake Madison.

It all started with a post on TikTok by a woman warning others about a "creepy" experience in which a man claimed to be injured and needed her help moving a box.

"There is a man who is approaching young women who are alone, and he's faking an injury and asking them to help him move a box from the passenger seat of his car to the trunk of his car," the unidentified woman said in the video seen by thousands on social media. "I don't know what scam this guy is running, but the literal exact same thing happened to somebody else who lives in the Valley, so I know that this guy is not legit. At best this is what he does to pick up women. At worst he is doing something more nefarious"

"It's all kind of creepy," she added. "Stay safe."

Almost instantly, other women responded sharing stories of the man attempting to kidnap them or asking them out. One woman posted a photo of a man along with his vehicle and license plate, and several said the same man approached them claiming to have varying injuries.

Several woman pointed out similaries between the man's approach and a ruse used by serial killer Ted Bundy to lure victims.
